Tuesday was impressive. As my wife was getting ready to go to a doctor appointment, an appointment for which I was going into work late so I could watch the baby, my septic system backed up into my basement bathroom. It’s hard to get worse than that, but it was early.

I told my wife what was going on, and she ended up taking the baby to the appointment with her while I cleaned up the bathroom...which is mercifully tile floored. Also, the sewage was basically just toilet water and shower water, so I dodged a bullet there. I called the septic company, they said they could be here in five hours. Fine, that’s fine.

Half an hour later my wife calls me as she’s leaving the appointment. Her car won’t start. Awesome. I loaded up my jump pack and headed over there, where the car started with a jump...the battery is at least 6 years old, and due for replacement.

I call AAA, and chat with the technician who is testing my battery so he can sell me a new one. Turns out my old boss (I worked for AAA for two years) got arrested for diddling his wife’s kids (not his kids, but still) and is doing 20 years or so. Yikes.

We get into the test and the car (and ‘03 ML350) has a minor parasitic draw. Not enough to get excited about (.7 amps is passing, this was .89 amps), but enough to fail the test so he can’t give me a new battery. Whatever, I’ll get one from the local parts store. Which I do, at a cost of $170 because batteries are crazy expensive now and its a 49, which is a gigantic god damn battery and makes 900CCA.

Shortly after that the septic service shows up, opens up my septic tank (we never joined up to the sewer) and tells me the system failed and I’ll have to join said sewer. He can pump the tank, but I’ll only have about a month before it needs to be pumped again unless I hook up to the sewer. They say they’ll send out a tech to snake the system and give me an estimate on the sewer hookup.

Basically, it’s going to cost $3800 or so to hookup, and mine is a fairly easy installation. I guess that’s worth something. I always kinda wondered how a giant hole in the ground that fills with shit can fail, but apparently the area around it can only hold so much shit, and that area is now literally full of shit. Good times!

Anyway, to today. My wife returned to work today after being out 12 weeks because she gave birth to our son. She was upset, so I stayed home with the kid rather than send him to daycare (which he starts on Monday). My mom took him a few hours ago and is watching him for another hour and a half.

Which means that finally, for the first time in three months, I have the house to myself. For a whole two hours. It’s fantastic.

Oh, and I’m picking up my truck tonight!

It needs some things, but after doing some eBay research, I’ve determined I could probably make about $1500 on it just by tossing it up for sale when I get it home tonight. I won’t do that, because this is taking the place of both my truck and my Mustang...so it’s functioning both as a truck and as a project vehicle. Can’t wait to be back in a big ass diesel pickup truck...I’m a big ass dude, so it suits me.

So yeah, it’s been a shitty few days. But empty house and impending new truck makes all that feel just fine now.

We did the daycare thing twice, both times the first day was the worst, the next week is a bit better, then after that they love it.

Both our kids talk way better, play with other kids better, and are generally a lot nicer to be around than their non-daycare friends/family.

You mean I can’t just crate train my future kid? My dog is only 4 months and she doesn’t have accidents anymore so I think it’ll work for kids too.

My day care announced on Monday they are closing so she can go back to work. I have two weeks to find a spot for a 7 month old.
